Padel has gained massive popularity in Germany in recent years. Originally from Mexico and Spain, this exciting racket sport is enjoying increasing popularity among players of all ages. It's the perfect sport for staying active while also fostering social connections. Our padel expert, Yannik Mann, presents the current state of padel development.
There are now over 550 padel courts in Germany. These newly built courts are primarily integrated into tennis centers and sports clubs, which greatly contributes to the sport's popularity. The number of padel players has also increased in recent years – currently, there are around 50,000 active players. This figure shows that padel is not just a passing trend, but is becoming an integral part of the German sporting landscape. Furthermore, padel clubs in Germany are on the rise. There are now more than 150 padel clubs specifically dedicated to this sport. These clubs offer not only training opportunities but also social events that strengthen the sense of community among the players.
There is an organized league system for padel in Germany. The German Padel Federation (DPV) has established various leagues suitable for both beginners and advanced players. The first and second Bundesliga, as well as the regional leagues, offer different age categories: Open, 35+, 40+, 45+, and 55+. Our padel expert Yannik MannBesides the Bundesliga, the German Padel Series (GPS) has become well-established in Germany. This year, the tournament series is expected to include more than 1,000 tournaments. This series is designed so that players of all levels, from beginners to elite, can compete at their own pace. Entry is made possible with the GPS 50, for which no license is even required. The series progresses to the GPS 100 and 250, where the level is already somewhat higher. The GPS 500, 1,000, and 1,500 are suitable for players from level 4.5 upwards. The tournament series is organized via RankedIn. You can easily register there and start playing with your partner right away.
Padel is not only enjoying growing popularity, but also offers a variety of event formats that appeal to both recreational and competitive players. Here, we'll briefly introduce you to the Americano . This unique tournament format usually takes place in a relaxed atmosphere and is suitable for both beginners and experienced players. Participants play in rotating teams (mixed teams), meaning partners change after each round. This gives every player the opportunity to play with different partners and experience various playing styles.
The Americano event consists of several rounds, typically with short matches and tie-break scoring. Players accumulate points based on the result of each round. The Americano is an excellent opportunity to improve your padel skills, make new friends, and simply have a good time on the court. Ideal for anyone who wants to experience the dynamic world of padel in a social setting!
