Beating winners made easy - easier said than done!
Under sunny skies, we headed to the courts in Naturns at 10 a.m. on day four – with coach Joe from the European Tennis Academy . Today's camp diary entry is very special – because our Mia wrote it herself! Are you as curious as we are to see what a typical camp day looks like from a child's perspective? Then read on!
Beating winners made easy – that was the theme on day 4
After a few catching and throwing drills, we started warming up on the small court, where we focused on hitting the ball at the zero point and breathing through the ball. We played long balls, and in the next drill, as a preparatory exercise for the down-the-line ball, we had to play into the double corridor. That wasn't so easy! After playing a few cross-court rallies, our task was to continue playing cross-court, but when we thought it was the right moment to play down-the-line, we had to shout "YES!" while still continuing to play cross-court. At the end of the session, we played a drill where we did a cross-court rally and then had to play the down-the-line ball at the right moment.
After a break for refreshments at the clubhouse, we continued at 1 p.m. In the afternoon, we focused on short cross-court shots, aiming to hit them into various target areas. The next exercise involved hitting a ball of a specific length to the baseline and then, when given the opportunity, attempting the short cross-court shot we had practiced earlier. Finally, we practiced a few second serves, with one of us having to attack the serve.
What did we learn today? Don't just blindly attack every ball, but wait for your chance and then consistently play the winner! It's not that easy, but we're working on it!
