Off to the Ruhr area – that was the plan for our tennis family. A week-long tournament trip in and around Mülheim, a visit to the PMTR Tennis Academy , the ATP Challenger tournament in Meerbusch , participation in a tournament hosted by our cooperation partner dh tennis management , and a stay at the TennisTraveller Hotel Kocks am Mühlenberg . So, in mid-August, we set off with a fully packed car and three motivated tennis kids, traveling halfway across Germany.
In Mülheim, Mrs. Lang was already waiting for us at the Hotel Kocks with her uniquely friendly manner. The hotel, which appears rather unassuming from the outside, has everything a TennisTraveller could need and desire. Wonderfully large rooms, gloriously comfortable beds, and state-of-the-art bathrooms. Everything was spotless and impeccably maintained.
Breakfast was simply fantastic every day: fresh rolls, cakes, pancakes, muesli, fresh fruit, and so much more... There were also "packed lunch bags" on the table where you could pack some snacks for the day. In the evenings, we parents would enjoy a relaxing nightcap at the bar with Mülheim beer specialties or unwind in the small but very nice sauna area.
The hotel's location, just a short walk from the Ruhr River, is ideal: you're right in Mülheim's city center with its beautiful river promenade and inviting restaurants. Or you can stroll or jog along the Ruhr. And yet, it's still peaceful! An ideal hotel for a tournament trip. The warmth and friendliness of the entire team is truly exceptional – simply incredibly kind!

The Hotel Kocks is not only an ideal location for a tournament trip in the Ruhr area, but is also becoming a true TennisTraveller PMTR Tennis Academy of Uwe Schumann .
Since our daughter had a day off on the first day of the tournament, I quickly arranged a training session at PMTR for her. Thanks to their summer base , which is offered daily during the North Rhine-Westphalia summer holidays, tournament players can simply drop by on a day off and train with other tournament players under the guidance of one or more coaches. Athletic training is also included. A great thing, in my opinion.
Overall, I was truly impressed by the concept and the services offered by PMTR: everything here is approached and practiced with extreme professionalism. During the tournaments, PMTR players received tournament support, where the kids created their match plan in the morning, discussed it with the coaches, and then traveled to the tournament together. On-site, the PMTR kids were looked after by the coaches – the orange jackets and shirts were everywhere!
PMTR also organizes tennis camps , so that an ideal tennis camp can be found for all skill levels and age groups.

During our tournament week, the Meerbusch Stadtwerke Tennis Open taking place. As we were a tournament partner of the ATP Challenger tournament, we naturally accepted tournament director Marc Raffel's invitation to the ATP Business Night . Despite the cool weather, we enjoyed some tournament tennis as well as the discussions and conversations during the evening event – a wonderful atmosphere prevailed in the Leih-Es area with the white tents of the exhibitors and caterers.

Our kids participated in the 1st Mülheim Tennis Tournament Circuit, which features three tournaments in nine days. They played in the second tournament in Raadt and the third tournament at KHTC Mülheim, the "home base" of the PMTR Tennis Academy. Both tournaments were excellently organized, and there was a really nice, relaxed tournament atmosphere.
When a father and daughter both play in a seniors' and women's tournament at the same time – that's pure fun! This happened during the second half of our week in Mülheim at the PSV Mülheim Outdoor Open 2. Diana Hömke, owner of dh tennis management , tournament organizer for rankings, and TennisTraveller partner, welcomed them both to the tournament at the TVN Performance Center in Essen. It was a very pleasant meeting – we'd love to do it again! And the tournament organization was perfect!
Our days in Mülheim were truly intense and packed, so unfortunately we didn't have time to see or do any cultural sightseeing. The Ruhr region has so much to offer! But with three kids playing in tournaments, our days were completely scheduled. All in all, we had a wonderful week, thanks to the fantastic hotel stay and the warm hospitality we encountered everywhere.
For that, we say THANK YOU again and hope that we will travel to the "Ruhr area" again next summer at the latest!
