Tiebreak challenge with Alex, technique tuning and ABCD rallies - that was day 3 at the Junior Tennis Camp at the Alexander Waske Tennis University
Yesterday's fitness session was intense: strength training was on the agenda. First with small dumbbells, then on the versatile equipment of the Kempinski fitness room, the kids trained diligently and gave it their all. This morning, they were definitely feeling the effects of the workout. After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, they headed to the Kempinski Hotel at 11:00 a.m. for their first two-hour training session as part of the Junior Tennis Camp at the Alexander Waske Tennis University with junior coach Ivana.
After the warm-up, the field was divided into different zones, and the kids had to play in different zones against the clock – not as easy as it sounds. It requires stamina, willpower, concentration, etc.!
Tiebreak challenge with Alexander Waske - cool sparring with the head coach
And suddenly, Alexander Waske was in the hall and challenged our two kids to a tiebreak challenge. A really cool story! Each of them played a tiebreak against him – and even though Alex (of course) won against both of them in the end, the kids were the real winners. A mandatory handshake photo will certainly be a great memento! Afterwards, I had the opportunity to conduct an in-depth interview with Alex about the Tennis University – coming soon online. It's definitely worth checking out, not just for TennisTraveller, but especially for tennis parents – that much I can tell you!
Fine-tuning of forehand technique by Junior Head Coach André Stenger
After a short break at the hotel, the second tennis session continued in the afternoon. Unfortunately, our older player was quite unwell with a cold, so our younger player had a solo training session with Junior Head Coach André Steger . He addressed the forehand issues that had arisen after the drastic grip change and quickly identified several areas for improvement. Small tips with a truly significant impact – it was immediately apparent! A few progressive forehand drills were completed, and before we knew it, the hour-long training session was over.
Evening sweat-inducing fitness session with circuit training
Yes, and while I'm writing this blog post here in the gym of the Kempinski Hotel Frankfurt, a really great circuit training session is taking place next door! Classic bodyweight exercises that train the entire body. So that the muscles really feel it!
Now keep your fingers crossed that the kids can start their last day here at the Alexander Waske Tennis University together tomorrow. It's incredible how quickly the days have flown by!
