Over Easter, on our way to Croatia, we stopped in Carinthia and spent two nights at the Parkhotel Pörtschach on the beautiful Lake Wörthersee. This traditional hotel, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, is one of THE hotel institutions on Lake Wörthersee. Unlike many other hotels, this four-star superior hotel has managed to combine the retro flair of the 1960s with thoroughly modern elements. Today, the hotel offers a truly special ambiance, which completely captivated us during our two-day stay. Added to this is the unique peninsula location with its large hotel park right on the lake . You can read about our experiences in and around the hotel in my travel report.
Come along with us for a short time to the Parkhotel Pörtschach on Lake Wörthersee!
On Maundy Thursday, my family and I headed towards Carinthia, where we planned a short stopover on our way to Croatia. What could be more fitting than choosing one of our wonderful Carinthian tennis hotels? We opted for the four-star superior Parkhotel Pörtschach , which we already knew from the outside from a visit to Lake Wörthersee last year. From the outside, the Parkhotel is built in the typical architectural style of the 1960s : a rather imposing-looking high-rise complex, which, however, turned out not to be so imposing upon closer inspection.

The 1960s retro style is immediately apparent at the entrance doors and door signage. Upon entering the enormous lobby, the style continues, blended beautifully with numerous modern elements. For example, the oversized modern chandelier creates a striking contrast with the nostalgically styled reception desk.

Speaking of reception: we received a very warm welcome and were immediately taken to our family suite . And the family suite truly delighted us: two separate bedrooms, two separate bathrooms, and two balconies – one of them overlooking the three tennis courts , simply perfect for us TennisTraveller ! And the hotel's slogan, "The best location," certainly doesn't overpromise: from the rooms, you can see from a "bird's-eye view" just how uniquely the hotel is situated on the peninsula on Lake Wörthersee.
Under sunny skies, but with unusually cool temperatures for the time of year, we explored the waterfront promenade, lined with numerous cafes and bars, and afterwards took a stroll around the hotel. Work was in full swing on the beautifully situated tennis courts. Unfortunately, the courts weren't yet playable due to the recent nighttime frosts. A pity, but nobody could do anything about the chilly Easter weather this year...
So, after our walk, we headed to the swimming pool and the spa area . Our boys had a lot of fun in the pool and splashed around with a view of Lake Wörthersee. We enjoyed the peace and quiet in the small but beautifully designed sauna area.
Feeling refreshed, we decided to have dinner at the hotel that evening. We had only booked bed and breakfast, but adding dinner for the evening was very easy. We were given a lovely table right by the large panoramic windows of the main restaurant, so we could enjoy the stunning lake view while we ate. The six-course meal was delicious, and the service was pleasantly relaxed and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and had a wonderful start to our vacation.

The next day started with a leisurely breakfast. The breakfast buffet left absolutely nothing to be desired – it had everything an athlete could wish for. Well fortified, we decided to go for a hike, as the tennis courts weren't open yet. Following a hiking tip from reception, we set off for the Karawankenblick viewpoint, up the Pirkkogel mountain, descended to Krumpendorf, and then followed the lake back to Pörtschach. It was a hike in perfect weather, even if the temperatures were rather cool again. But the view was simply magnificent, and the exercise was invigorating.

We treated ourselves to an apple strudel before heading back to the spa area to relax. Despite the hotel being fully booked, it was never crowded, nor was the pool.
For dinner that evening, we decided to visit a restaurant in the area. It was a nice change, especially since there are many options within walking distance. Anyone who doesn't want to eat at the hotel every night will find something to suit every taste.
The next morning, it was sadly time to say goodbye again, as our TennisTraveller trip continued to Croatia. Despite the short stay, we were truly impressed by the traditional Parkhotel Pörtschach . Its unique peninsula location is absolutely stunning. From almost every side, you feel like you could jump right into the lake. The adjacent park is beautiful for strolling or a morning jog.
We will definitely come back, if only to play on the beautifully situated tennis courts. With the lake on either side and the tennis courts nestled in between, playing there must be fantastic! And of course, some of the hotel's absolute highlights, such as the terraces, the lakeside pool, and much more, will perfectly complement a tennis holiday in the summer heat.

The tennis family's conclusion is: we'll be back!
