Today we have something for your ears! It's the tennis podcast "Kleines Tennis" (Little Tennis) by and with Stephan Simann. Because there aren't just great tennis books, but also super exciting, informative, and entertaining tennis podcasts. It's a different format that breathes life into areas of tennis that are sometimes neglected in reporting and the "literary" world. And Stephan focuses precisely on one such area of tennis in his podcast "Kleines Tennis": amateur tennis. Find out why he created the podcast, how his shows work, and who he definitely wants to have in front of the microphone in my interview with him.
There are certainly many podcasts about "big" tennis, meaning podcasts that cover international professional tennis. That's why Stephan Simann created the podcast "Kleines Tennis" (Little Tennis). This podcast aims to tell stories and anecdotes from amateur tennis. In each episode, players from all levels of the ranking system are interviewed. Naturally, the tennis background of the interviewees is always an integral part of each episode. But they also chat about their clubs, their structures, what works well, and what doesn't. This aspect alone is incredibly interesting for anyone who volunteers at a club. Some podcast episodes also include a "special segment." Stephan has already conducted podcasts with stringing experts, fashion labels, coaches, and myself, where we naturally discuss the interviewee's particular passion or profession.
Stephan's goal from the beginning was to have all performance levels featured on his podcast. Since the first episode in February 2020, he has succeeded in doing so, with the exception of performance level 3. Thus,
It's simply wonderful to see, or rather hear, someone doing something with pure passion. And you certainly can't deny that about Stephan and his podcast. His podcast was born out of a passion for (amateur) tennis, and that passion is what keeps it going. Without any hype, sensationalism, or excessive praise, Stephan, with his understated approach, manages to showcase his podcast guests, engaging them in informative dialogue without rambling or straying from the main topics. His sonorous and very pleasant voice creates a very comfortable listening atmosphere. His focus on amateur tennis clearly sets him apart from the most well-known and, of course, much more widely listened-to tennis podcasts. But I'm sure that Stephan will gradually gain a larger audience with his podcast.
My final podcast conclusion is short and sweet: "Small Tennis" - small, but WOW!
If you'd like to listen to my podcast about tennis and a little bit about the TennisTraveller – please do! It was my first podcast, and I really enjoyed it!
