Junior tennis camp at the Alexander Waske Tennis University - we report daily in the Camp Diary
Good things should be repeated – that's what we, as a tennis family, thought after the Easter tennis camp in March 2017 at the Schüttler-Waske Tennis Academy. And it didn't stop at just thinking it, so next week I'll be heading towards Offenbach, or more precisely, Frankfurt-Gravenbruch, with two of our children.
Four days of intensive training , and just like during our last visit, you can follow the daily camp life via our camp diary - not quite live, but almost, and with plenty of sound, text, and color!
Train like the pros for 4 days at the Alexander Waske Tennis University Junior Tennis Camp
This time, the kids signed up for a "normal" junior camp , which is offered year-round. They train like the pros for four days , meaning 1.5 hours of training each morning and afternoon – plus an hour of athletic training. And there's one coach for every two children.
Since we're playing at Waske Tennis University outside of the Hessian school holidays, the kids will be integrated into the regular junior training routine. I'm curious to see if there are any differences between the school holiday camps at Easter, in summer and autumn, and this year-round junior camp. We can easily compare them.
New name, new location, and hopefully the same quality
There are, however, a few obvious differences compared to our visit 1.5 years ago: firstly, the academy was "Alexander Waske Tennis University" Since Rainer Schüttler had increasingly withdrawn from operational and strategic matters in recent years, this name change was the logical consequence.
Since late summer 2017, there has also been a new location for youth training , where the Junior Camp for our kids will now also take place: in the inflatable tennis hall right next to the 5-star Kempinski Hotel Frankfurt-Gravenbruch, young players train during the winter season. These players, in addition to their regular club training, take advantage of professional tennis coaching to improve their skills. Currently, there are around 20 ambitious young players who train at the BSC 1899 Offenbach facility in the summer. The main location remains Rosenhöhe in Offenbach.
Train like the pros - Meet & Greet included
I'm also curious to see which tennis professionals we'll see training at the academy – that's always very exciting and a great motivation for the kids! Currently, around 20-25 professionals train at the Tennis University, including Andrea Petkovic, up-and-coming talent Jule Niemeier, and Phillip Petzschner, who are among the most famous and successful German tennis stars.
The Alexander Waske Tennis University offers Easter, summer, and autumn camps during the Hessian school holidays. These camps are aimed not only at aspiring young tennis stars but also at all tennis-loving children and teenagers aged 8-18 who simply want to train under professional conditions. And by the way, the Tennis University is always open to adults and teams for a trial session. Everyone can learn a lot from the professional coaches, gaining new inspiration and motivation for their own tennis practice. So why not train like the pros? That's sure to be interesting for every tennis player!
Our camp diary shows what it's really like - at least as the children and the tennis mom experienced it
As with the 2017 Easter camp, I'll be writing a detailed camp diary – so stay tuned for our daily report with lots of pictures and probably a video or two, as well as interviews. This way you can find out exactly how a junior camp at the Alexander Waske Tennis University works and what you and your kids can expect.
