Right at the beginning of the year, Jonas and his parents set off from Stuttgart to the Ruhr region. Excited and highly motivated, Jonas, as the winner of our PMTR raffle, was able to participate in the 4-day New Year's camp at the PMTR Tennis Academy in Mülheim an der Ruhr. We had also arranged accommodation for him thanks to the B&B Hotel Mülheim an der Ruhr . A room had been reserved for the family there from the day before. Jonas's mother, Ayleen, sent us a detailed and, in our opinion, very informative travel report, which we wanted to share with you. The family's conclusion makes us happy too: "A happy break with a happy child!"
"A beautiful new hall with two different floor coverings. Integrated within is a small, charmingly furnished Fair Trade café with a menu. Here, the kids can enjoy a balanced and very healthy lunch. Spectators have a slightly difficult time, as only the first court is visible from the café. There is a floor-to-ceiling window seat at court 1 of the three, but the main focus is on the kids being without their parents during training.".
The training is performance-oriented, even though no tournament players other than Jonas were registered. It has a very professional feel. The groups are small (3 kids per coach). A lot of emphasis is placed on athletic training (outdoors/indoors, regardless of the weather). At the end of the day, there's a cool-down run, stretching, etc. (10 minutes). As a physical education teacher, I personally find this a bit too short, but the children are shown so many variations that I was very impressed. Regular stretching, foam rolling, rolling out feet barefoot, etc. Many camps don't even include that in their program.

The administrative side is very good. I received an email after registration containing a training manual for the children, which was to be started 14 days prior to the camp. A week after the camp, I was surprised by an email with very precise feedback about my child.

only
criticism is that the parents weren't greeted individually or as a group. There was a lack of personal contact with the event organizer and/or the coaches. I would have appreciated a brief introduction and a short, personal overview of the schedule.
You want to know your child is in good hands. Which was definitely the case, but without any personal connection to any one person. The procedure is posted as a printout in the coach's office, which is briefly referenced. The farewell was discussed with the children only, away from the parents.
The only drawback:
the bunk beds don't have "normal" mattresses, but rather a harder, sofa-like surface. Anyone unaccustomed to sleeping on hard surfaces will find it very difficult.
Parents can enjoy themselves in Oberhausen and Düsseldorf. After a long day with a child, the harbor and old town of Düsseldorf are ideal. Travel time is approximately 30 minutes.
Likewise, the large CENTRO shopping center in Oberhausen offers dining, shopping, admiring the Christmas lights, and much more. Travel time is 10 minutes.
For us, larger outings, such as visiting Sea Life or museums with a child, were no longer possible, as the camp of this length required a break to recover.
Despite the rain and gloomy weather, a successful break with a happy child."
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the PMTR Tennis Academy of Uwe Schumann and the B&B Hotel Mülheim an der Ruhr, who made the New Year's Camp raffle possible!
