Tennis, padel, pickleball, and an extra dose of Greek joie de vivre. At the Kalimera Kriti Hotel & Village Resort in Crete, sporting diversity, warm hospitality, and a fantastic setting come together. And I was lucky enough to be right in the middle of it all – even at a very special tennis event! There are tennis courts where you simply enjoy playing. And then there are tennis courts where you almost forget to watch the ball because the view is so beautiful. The Kalimera Kriti Hotel & Village Resort in Crete definitely belongs to the second category. Because here, you don't just play tennis – you play tennis with a sea view. And what a view it is!
Even at first glance, it's clear: this place is all about racket sports. But don't worry, the holiday feeling is definitely not neglected. Quite the opposite!
The resort's centerpiece is the newly redesigned WORLD CLASS Racket Center. And it truly is impressive: 26 clay courts, a center court with 500 seats, five padel courts, and four pickleball courts. Such a variety of racket sports is a rare find – especially in this idyllic location right on the Cretan Sea.

What particularly impressed me? Without a doubt, the view from the tennis courts overlooking the deep blue Mediterranean. While concentrating on the next rally, your gaze inevitably wanders towards the water. A little distraction is perfectly acceptable! The facility is spacious, the courts are surrounded by natural stone walls and typical Mediterranean scenery. Add to that the Cretan sun and the sea in the background – for me, a combination that makes a day of tennis even more enjoyable.
The infrastructure has also been taken into consideration: there's a sports piazza with a sports bar and Wilson Pro Shop. So, if you need equipment, want to rent your racket, or want to watch other players' matches with a drink after your game, this is the place to be.
Those who enjoy playing tennis on vacation are spoiled for choice at Kalimera Kriti. Besides the numerous clay courts, two other racket sports await discovery.
Padel is far more than just a trend and has become a regular part of the sports program for many racket sports enthusiasts. Five courts offer ample opportunity to work out with friends, meet new playing partners, or simply try out a different racket sport.
And then there's pickleball! The four courts demonstrate that the resort aims to be at the forefront of current developments in racket sports. The combination of tennis, badminton, and table tennis provides plenty of exercise and fun – even for those who might not be on the tennis court every day.

Anyone looking to improve their technique or further develop their athletic skills can take advantage of the offerings at the Patricio Racket Academy. They provide training opportunities for different skill levels and needs. My impression: The Kalimera Kriti isn't just a hotel with a few tennis courts. It's a true racket sports center.
A truly special highlight of my trip was the World Team Championships for senior tennis players in the 75+, 80+, and 85+ age groups. Seventy-eight teams from all over the world gathered in Crete to compete in the team events. The players came from 27 different nations! What an impressive sight! Players, some well over 80 years old, stood on the court, fighting for every point and representing their home countries with incredible pride.
But what impressed me at least as much as the sporting level was the joy of the participants. Everywhere you looked there was laughter, cheering, conversation, and of course, plenty of excitement. Some of the tournament participants' families were also there. A fascination with tennis that transcends generations. Seeing a grandson cheering on his grandmother is simply incredibly beautiful! You could immediately sense that this was about so much more than just winning or losing matches. It was about community, friendships, a passion for the sport, and the joy of experiencing something together.

It's precisely these moments that show what makes our sport so special. Tennis connects people across national borders and generations. And it keeps you young – in your mind, in your heart, and quite obviously on the court! For me, it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm with which the participants approached the game. A true testament to keeping your tennis racket in your hand for as long as possible. After all, who says that sporting dreams have an expiration date?

Despite my enthusiasm for the sports facilities, one thing in particular stood out during my stay: the people at Kalimera Kriti. The service staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and warm, and in a pleasant, unobtrusive way. Hotel manager Nikos also exudes a calm, serenity, and positivity that is contagious.
You feel welcome and can tell that the people here enjoy what they do. Especially at a resort that hosts international sporting events and brings together many guests with very different expectations, this isn't something to take for granted. For me, this warmth is definitely one of the things that will stay with me.
But it's not just the hotel staff who are fantastic! The Patricioteam, who take care of everything in and around the racket center, also have everything wonderfully under control. Even during a major international event like the Senior World Championships. Especially noteworthy is Christian Singer, Managing Director of Patricio Travel, who served as tournament director. He's incredibly empathetic, always ready to listen and lend a helping hand. And of course, he's a true racket sports enthusiast, himself a very good tennis and pickleball player. And it shows in everything he does!
I had the opportunity to interview him on Center Court early in the morning before the tournament started - just listen for yourself.

Of course, a successful tennis holiday isn't just about forehands, backhands, and serves. The overall experience has to be right, too. And Kalimera Kriti offers plenty of options for that. The resort is located directly on the sea and boasts two sandy beaches, several outdoor pools – including an Olympic-sized pool – and a spa.
Those who prefer to unwind after an intense day of training will find ample opportunity to do so. Beyond racket sports, there's plenty to discover: fitness, beach volleyball, soccer, water sports, and yoga are all part of the diverse range of activities. Hyrox programs, Les Mills Weeks, and Fitness First clubs round out the offerings. The Hyrox Coliseum, which hosts fitness events, is also a fantastic feature.
My personal highlight, of course, is the fitness area right by the sea. Add to that the Cretan cuisine and the Mediterranean atmosphere, which simply make a holiday on the island so special.

The combination of sporting activity and relaxing holiday moments works particularly well here. A morning on the tennis court, followed by a round of padel or pickleball, and later ending the day with a view of the sea – sounds like a pretty good holiday plan!
The Kalimera Kriti Hotel & Village Resort impressed me most with its exceptional racket sports infrastructure, stunning location, and warm hospitality. With 26 clay courts, five padel courts, and four pickleball courts, the resort is an exciting destination for anyone who enjoys an active vacation. Whether you're an ambitious tennis player, a padel enthusiast, a pickleball beginner, or simply a sports-loving holidaymaker – there's something for everyone here.
I especially loved the atmosphere during the World Team Championships. The enthusiasm of the players from all over the world reminded me once again why I love tennis so much: because it brings people together, fosters friendships, and shows us that passion knows no age limit.
And then there's that sea view, of course! Honestly, you couldn't ask for a better way to spend a day of tennis.
My personal highlight? Without a doubt: racket sports with a breathtaking sea view, combined with Greek hospitality. Kalimera Kriti – I'll definitely be back!
