Met and fell in love on the tennis court, now married for 20 years. Reason enough for me to surprise short trip for the “porcelain wedding anniversary” It had to be something very special. Something that also takes up our shared hobby of tennis and also fulfills many of our holiday wishes in terms of active relaxation, wellness and culinary delights. And I quickly chose the Posthotel Achenkirch on Lake Achensee in Tyrol. Of course, tennis still plays an important role today, as it is the best hobby of all for both of us and now also for our three children. how our stay at the Posthotel Achenkirch turned into an unforgettable wedding short trip in our very special Travelscout report .
We set off early Monday morning towards Lake Achensee, a region in Tyrol that was completely new to us. From Stuttgart, we reached the lake in three hours, the last hour of which took us through a magnificent mountain landscape. For our first day, we had chosen a hike in the Rofan Mountains. From Maurach, you take the Rofan cable car up high and find beautiful alpine trails and charming mountain huts. After the exertion, we rewarded ourselves with a delicious mountain snack at an alpine pasture – what a way to start a vacation!

In the late afternoon, we drove back along Lake Achensee to Achenkirch. There, on the northern shore of the lake, next to the church, lies the traditional Posthotel Achenkirch , an exclusive tennis hotel. Check-in was very friendly. We drove our car directly to the luggage check-in in the huge underground garage, unloaded our suitcases, and then parked the car at our leisure. We were then offered a glass of sparkling wine to toast our vacation.
After a brief tour of the hotel, we were shown to our room in the main building. And we were quite surprised when the door to our Signature Suite opened. Spacious, airy, modern, a blend of wood and stone. The bathroom, with its huge shower and bathtub, is integrated into one room yet cleverly separated by various elements. Panoramic windows line the entire front of the room, there's a small balcony, and my personal highlight: the free-swinging rocking chair!
To relax, we then headed to the spa area – completely renovated since 2021. And let me tell you, it's absolutely fantastic. Everything is made with flowing wood, glass, and lighting accents – it's the perfect place for a sauna. For those who prefer something even more stylish, I highly recommend the "Sunken Temple" . It's truly something you should see. Personally, I preferred the brighter area. After the sauna, we went to the Yin-Yang outdoor pool – one pool with cold water, the other with warm water – simply wonderful.
Feeling refreshed, we went to dinner. Our table was beautifully set in a small, cozy dining room. Guests can choose either the "regular" five-course menu, the Tenzo menu, or a combination of both – these dishes are served at the table. There's also a deli market, a buffet area where you can help yourself to salads, various appetizers, main courses, and desserts. This abundance of choices admittedly caused us a bit of confusion on our first evening. But thanks to the friendly service, we were able to fully enjoy the gourmet cuisine.

The next day was our wedding anniversary. We were greeted at breakfast with a beautifully decorated table. The breakfast was truly fantastic – they had everything imaginable. Fortified by our meal, we didn't head to the tennis court that day, but instead went mountain biking. A wonderful, leisurely ride along Lake Achensee took us into the Karwendel Mountains. We were able to rent the bikes at the hotel, by the way. After a fantastic ride, we enjoyed some relaxation in the spa area.
A beautifully set table awaited us at dinner, where we enjoyed another wonderful meal. After a visit to the bar, we were surprised in our room with a romantically decorated bed – the housekeeping staff had truly gone the extra mile. Thank you so much!

On the third day, after breakfast, we finally headed to the tennis court – just as TennisTraveller should. From the two beautifully situated clay courts, you have a breathtaking view of the mountains. I don't think you could find a more beautiful setting to serve in the mountains! By the way, you can enjoy this at the Posthotel Achenkirch all year round. In addition to the two clay courts, the hotel also has two indoor courts. So, for my husband and me, the circle was complete at the end of our wedding getaway, back on the tennis court with plenty of sunshine and a stunning view! If that's not a good omen, I don't know what is!

To conclude our stay, we treated ourselves to a spa treatment. The "Power Ritual" included a massage of the head, neck, and feet – a wonderful combination that grounded and relaxed us. The spa area is beautiful and its light-filled, bright rooms create a truly relaxing atmosphere. Before heading home, we enjoyed a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) lunch at the Tenzo restaurant. And then, sadly, it was time to go home.
During our stay at the Posthotel Achenkirch, I had the pleasure of interviewing Karl C. Reiter, the hotel's owner. He is the sixth generation to run the hotel. A calm and thoughtful leader, he skillfully blends tradition with modern influences. His love for Far Eastern culture and lifestyle is reflected in many aspects of the hotel. This gives the hotel a unique and appealing character, without compromising its solidity, warmth, and down-to-earth atmosphere.
For those who want to treat themselves to something truly special, who are looking for a tennis hotel with other sporting opportunities, who place great value on a fantastic spa and wellness area, and who appreciate fine dining, the Posthotel Achenkirch the ideal choice. Yes, a stay at this 5-star adults-only hotel comes at a price. But you are also offered a great deal in return, and all of it at the highest level. Especially if, like us, you want to celebrate a very special day in a special setting, the Posthotel is the perfect place. Everything is thought of, implemented with style and elegance, and, most importantly for me, without sacrificing warmth and coziness. A stay that we will definitely cherish forever. Thank you to the entire team for these moments!
