Wow – that was my very first thought when I saw the fantastic photos our two travel scouts, Hanna and Dani emailed me directly from the ROBINSON DJERBA BAHIYA MARA Open 2023 , answered our competition question correctly, and were drawn as the lucky winners. And then it was time to make travel plans. For these two top-league players, teammates, and friends, those plans quickly turned into a concrete tennis vacation plan. In October, they headed to Djerba for a week to extend their summer. The 7-day stay for two at the club, with the all-inclusive ROBINSON package, was completely included in the price.
wonderful photos and, above all, a super detailed travel report after their return , which was met with a second big "WOW." It was both of their very first time at a ROBINSON Club. So, a completely unbiased first-time holiday that was truly something special for the two of them, and not just on the tennis court. But the best thing to do is simply read the fantastic travel report yourself. It's definitely worth it, because it's pure tennis travel bliss !
From here I hand over the author's pen to Hanna and Dani and wish you TennisTravellerlots of reading fun!
"We've just returned from a wonderfully beautiful week at the ROBINSON Club on the Tunisian island of Djerba. We, Hanna and Dani, had the pleasure of experiencing this club, located right on the Mediterranean Sea. The following report describes our experiences and impressions of this unforgettable week. We hope it gives you a good idea of what the club is like.".
Our arrival
Upon arrival at the airport, we were greeted by a friendly TUI employee who directed us to a shuttle bus that was already waiting for us and the other Robinson guests. The drive from the airport to the hotel took about 40 minutes. Once at the hotel, we were welcomed with sparkling wine and refreshing juices while our luggage was unloaded and taken to our rooms. After the reception, we headed to the bistro right by the sea. Afterwards, we toasted to the week ahead in the rooftop bar, where live music was playing as the sun set. Over a delicious drink, we immediately struck up conversations with other hotel guests. As you can see, we felt very comfortable and welcome from the very first moment. Our arrival day couldn't have gone better.
The hotel
The Robinson Club Djerba is located directly on the Mediterranean Sea. The resort is in excellent and, above all, clean condition. The club boasts a private beach, an outdoor and an indoor pool, two restaurants, four bars, and a wide range of sports facilities. In addition to seven tennis courts, there are two beach volleyball courts, a football pitch, two table tennis tables, and a gym. Although the club is relatively large, everything is easily accessible within a few minutes. The resort's architecture is particularly impressive. The white and blue colors and tall towers create a unique atmosphere reminiscent of Arabian Nights.
The sports program
To be honest, we had envisioned our vacation as a relaxing getaway with cocktails on the beach. On our first day, we certainly made the most of sunbathing with a delicious drink. However, we quickly realized the incredible variety of activities on offer and wanted to try as many as possible. So, the following days were a bit more active for us. We attended the volleyball sessions daily, where we learned a great deal. The always cheerful instructors kept everyone in good spirits and gave us helpful tips. After just a few days, we noticed an improvement in our game. The beach volleyball courts' proximity to the shore was particularly convenient.
After a day at the beach, we usually treated ourselves to a refreshing drink from the beach bar next door. Tip: Our absolute favorite was the iced coffee. In addition to classes like Pilates, we also visited the gym. The room was nicely air-conditioned, and we actually had it all to ourselves. We discovered that running on the treadmill with a view of the beautiful palm trees made it much more enjoyable.
Besides the occasional table tennis match, tennis was of course a must for us tennis players. Since we happened to meet two tennis players at the beginning of our holiday, a doubles match was inevitable. All seven courts had a clay surface, which differed somewhat from the clay courts we're used to. For a clay court, we felt the surface was relatively fast. Nevertheless, it was a great game on the beautifully situated tennis courts.
Leisure activities
Aside from the sports facilities at the club, there was an adjacent water sports center offering numerous activities such as jet skiing, catamaran sailing, kitesurfing, and banana boat rides. Since the water sports center wasn't part of the club, these activities were subject to a fee. However, the prices were very reasonable. We opted for a 90-minute jet ski tour and didn't regret it for a second. It was one of the highlights of our vacation, and we highly recommend it.

Another unforgettable experience was our horseback ride on the beach. Although neither of us had any experience with horseback riding, it wasn't a problem at all. A guide accompanied us on our 60-minute sunset ride.

Outside the club, quad bike tours and camel rides were also offered. The club's evening events were particularly noteworthy. In addition to musical performances and children's theater shows, there was a DJ every night who kept the atmosphere lively. We especially enjoyed the Black Night on Thursday and the Gala Evening on Saturday, where the partying was exuberant. These evenings were definitely unforgettable for us!
The food
The good thing – or perhaps not so good :) – is that food is available throughout the club. Besides breakfast, lunch, and dinner, there's a bistro offering light snacks like pizza and salads between lunch and dinner. And for all you late risers: in addition to the regular breakfast (7 to 10 am), there's also a late breakfast, which we admittedly took advantage of quite often :). The buffet always offered a wide selection. There were also many vegetarian and vegan options. For breakfast, there were all sorts of rolls, whether wheat, whole wheat, with or without seeds – there was something for everyone. Croissants and freshly made pancakes were also available. Besides muesli, fruit, and platters of cold cuts and cheeses, you could even have an omelet made with various ingredients. As you can see, they really left nothing to be desired.

There was also a wide selection at dinner. In addition to the pasta, fries, potatoes, vegetables, fish, and salad, which were always available, there were a few new dishes each evening. One evening there was also a themed dinner featuring delicious regional Tunisian dishes. The quality of the food was perfectly acceptable, but in our opinion, there was still room for improvement. Although we visited the club during the off-season, the tables were usually all occupied at dinner. Since there were only two of us, we often had to share a table with others. This wasn't a problem for us at all, but anyone who wants peace and quiet should probably avoid eating during peak hours.
The ambience
The service at the hotel was always friendly and very helpful. Thanks to the extensive sports, leisure, and evening program, we were able to quickly make friends and felt very comfortable. The atmosphere was therefore very relaxed and pleasant.
What we didn't like so much
To be honest, we enjoyed our stay at the club so much that we could only find a few minor drawbacks. The beach is a bit rocky in most places, which makes getting into the sea a little uncomfortable. However, if you walk a few meters along the beach, you'll find a really beautiful sandy beach just a few minutes away. Here you can swim in complete relaxation. Since it's a bit further out, there aren't any sun loungers available. Generally speaking, relaxing on the beach was often a bit difficult because some of the locals were rather pushy. This might be because we were traveling as a couple (two young women). If you're on the beach with a partner, for example, the locals are much more reserved. We took it all in stride and were able to ignore it quite well.
Our conclusion
Since neither of us had ever been to a ROBINSON Club before, we had absolutely no idea what to expect. Therefore, we didn't have very high expectations, which is why we were all the more pleasantly surprised by the club in the end. We realized that there's a large team behind it, whose goal is to offer guests an unforgettable holiday experience.
The location, the sports and leisure activities, and the atmosphere were simply unique. In fact, a few tears were shed upon our return. This week will remain in our memories forever, and one thing is for sure: it certainly won't be our last time there!
Yours truly, Hanna & Dani
