TRIPLE T - TennisTraveller tests: HEAD Boom MP 2026 - the easy-power racket with plenty of comfort
Sometimes there are rackets where you know exactly what they're all about after just a few rallies. The HEAD Boom MP falls squarely into this category. Plenty of power, plenty of comfort – and that certain "easy playing" feel that immediately invites you to just start playing. The 2026 version of the Boom MP gets an update. The big question: Will it remain the familiar "fun racket" or will it now also appeal to more ambitious players? I received it from our partner Tennis Warehouse Europe for testing, played with it extensively in Mallorca during my preseason training, and summarized my experiences in the style of a classic playtest. Another round of "TRIPLE T - TennisTraveller tests" .
And now for the best part: we're giving away the HEAD Boom MP racket that I tested – maybe the winner will get a better feel for the BOOM with this racket?! Enter by Sunday, May 10, 2026 , and win the "Easy-Power" racket. We're keeping our fingers crossed for you!
The first impression – light, fast, uncomplicated
Even during the initial warm-up, it's noticeable: the Boom MP is extremely approachable. No hesitation, no "break-in period" needed. The racket felt instantly familiar. Weighing in at 295g unstrung, with a 100 sq. in. head size and a 16x19 string pattern, it's clearly aimed at a wide range of players. What immediately struck me: the sweet spot seems enormous, the racket accelerates incredibly easily, and it's remarkably forgiving of mistakes. This is confirmed by the design – the special head shape is intended to enlarge the hitting area, especially in the upper part of the ball. In short: the Boom MP makes it easy for you.
Baseline play – spin & depth without effort
From the baseline, the Boom MP plays exactly as expected – perhaps even a little better. Its biggest advantage: effortless depth . You don't need to exert much effort to generate power. The ball flies low with good spin. Its high maneuverability allows for quick reactions even from a defensive position – especially on late contact points or during fast rallies. What I liked: the spin comes almost effortlessly, pace can be generated without much power, and the racket is very forgiving. However, it sometimes lacks a bit of stability on very fast shots, and the control can feel a little vague when going all out. This aligns with other playtests: plenty of power and comfort, but slight weaknesses in stability and precision in extreme situations.
Serve & return – lots of support, a little less control
The Boom MP shines on the serve: easy acceleration, good spin on kick serves, and solid speed without requiring much effort. Second serves especially benefit from the open string pattern. However, the return reveals its weakness: the racket can feel somewhat unstable against hard serves, and timing is crucial to avoid a lack of control. Both of these characteristics are typical of lighter, power-oriented rackets.
The 2026 update – Hy-Bor for more feeling?
With this new version, HEAD introduces its Hy-Bor technology – boron fibers in the shaft are designed to provide more stable, direct feedback. Familiar technologies like Auxetic 2 for improved damping and Graphene for stability are also retained. All in all, it's not a completely new racket – but a noticeably refined one.
