Tennis in Carinthia: a longing for tennis in the south – the start of our regional special
In the next few weeks we would like to introduce you to a particularly beautiful tennis holiday region in the south of Austria: Carinthia . In addition to general information about the region, we will present you our Carinthian tennis hotels and the tennis camps there. And as you're used to from us, there are also a few very special Carinthian stories - there's a bit of out-of-the-box chatter. We're really looking forward to it - let us surprise you!
The start of our regional special "Tennis holiday in Carinthia" is this small but extremely informative presentation of the tennis holiday region with its many bathing lakes, the wonderful mountains and of course the many beautifully located tennis courts!
Tennis in Carinthia: Attractive packages, season from April to October, warm bathing lakes and delicious Alpine-Adriatic cuisine
Game, set, match! The key to success is proper preparation. Thanks to its Mediterranean climate, the tennis season in Carinthia starts as early as the beginning of April , offering the perfect opportunity to get in the mood for the outdoor season and championship matches. A diverse range of options is available for training groups and teams, as well as for families and individual travelers. Whether it's a camp, a long weekend, or active days with the family, attractive packages with 15 tennis-specialized hosts and ample courts (around 600 outdoor and 80 indoor courts) ensure that every need is met. Beyond its tennis expertise, Carinthia is a natural paradise nestled between mountains and warm lakes, offering extensive opportunities for running, biking, and golfing.
In German-speaking countries – thanks in large part to the successes of Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev – tennis is experiencing a renaissance. To underscore its status as a tennis destination, select hotels in Carinthia are offering attractive packages for tennis players of all skill levels. Groups and individual guests are warmly welcomed in the regions of Bad Kleinkirchheim/Lake Millstatt, Villach/Lake Faak/Lake Ossiach, Lake Wörthersee, and Lake Klopein – Southern Carinthia. There is no shortage of potential players in German-speaking countries alone: of the 400,000 tennis players in Austria, 175,000 are members of clubs. The German Tennis Federation boasts 1.4 million members, and a total of 5.8 million people regularly play tennis.
But Carinthia isn't just about tennis. It's also about enjoying nature! Whether running in the forest, taking a refreshing dip in the warm lakes, or biking on one of the many trails. Golfers will also feel right at home in Carinthia, with no fewer than 12 golf courses to choose from. Modern wellness facilities, bathhouses, and thermal baths offer hours of relaxation.
He/she plays tennis while he/she enjoys himself/herself!
Thanks to its diverse offerings, Carinthia is also the ideal destination for a tennis holiday even if your partner doesn't play tennis. While one person tries their luck on the court, the other can enjoy active pursuits such as cycling (e.g., mountain biking, e-bike tours), hiking, or water sports (e.g., stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking, etc.). Visitors can also explore the Pyramidenkogel observation tower, stroll through the historic centers of Carinthian towns, and participate in select Slow Food experience programs where they can observe dedicated food artisans at work or even try their hand at some of the crafts themselves. The range of activities includes everything from bread baking and hay milk processing to beer brewing and herb tastings.
Carinthian Alps Adriatic Cuisine
Culinary delights play a very special role in Carinthia. Here, you'll find culinary specialties and a strong appreciation for regional products in every corner. Carinthia's unique Alpine-Adriatic cuisine developed from the influences of its southern neighbors, Italy and Slovenia. The Slow Food Guide 2022, available from the end of March at the Carinthia Tourism website ( www.kaernten.at/slowfoodguide/ ), offers interesting tips for a culinary journey through Carinthia – whether in a simple country inn or at a Michelin-starred restaurant on a lakeside terrace. It lists restaurants, mountain huts, and farm shops, among other things.
