Starting Sunday, May 22, 2022, the wait is finally over: the first Saturn Oil Open , ATP Tennis on the Rhine & Sieg, will take place in Troisdorf. Following the major ATP tour event in Halle (formerly the Gerry Weber Open), the Saturn Oil Open will be another tennis highlight in North Rhine-Westphalia. The winner of the event will receive 80 ATP ranking points, and a total of over US$55,000 in prize money will be awarded. In addition, the newly established B&B Hotels Tennis Trophy will be up for grabs.
TennisTraveller , we are on board as a tournament partner right from the premiere , we are incredibly excited about it and have a fantastic travel prize in tow.
Behind the long-term concept is tennis entrepreneur Marc Raffel and his agency MARA Sport-Consulting, who, together with co-tournament director Marc Kevin Goellner, began preparations last autumn. "A great help in this endeavor was and is the exemplary cooperation with the organizing TC RW-Troisdorf eV and Uwe Maass (President), as well as board members Volker de Cloedt and Claus Dreser.".
“Together we have developed something truly special with many winners and beneficiaries,” said Raffel. The ATP Tennis project on the Rhine & Sieg was made possible primarily by the new title sponsor, Saturn Oil & Gas Inc. from Calgary, Canada. “The publicly traded company is not only a good sponsorship partner, especially in the current climate,” Raffel added. The presenting partner is B&B Hotels GmbH in conjunction with MK Consulting & Hotelmanagement; together they developed the B&B Hotels Tennis Trophy.
“We expect absolute world-class players and many Davis Cup stars,” reveals co-tournament director Marc-Kevin Goellner, himself a former Davis Cup champion and No. 25 in the ATP world rankings. The ATP entry list for the Saturn Oil Open, ATP Tennis on the Rhine & Sieg, includes many well-known names from the ATP tour, including Taro Daniel from Japan (ATP career high No. 63), Thomas Fabbiano from Italy (ATP career high No. 74), Gerald Melzer from Austria (ATP career high No. 60), Chilean tennis star Tomas Barrios Vera, and the rising star from Switzerland, Dominik Stricker, who already won the French Open as a junior. German crowd favorite Dustin Brown and Mischa Zverev will compete in the doubles competition at the Saturn Oil Open with their partners.
The 24-player qualifying draw begins on Sunday, May 22nd, at 10:00 AM, shortly before the official public opening ceremony in the Saturn Oil Open tent at 2:00 PM. The main draw then starts on Monday afternoon, May 23rd. The public Players Party takes place on the evening of Wednesday, May 25th, and the inaugural ATP Business Night is on Saturday evening, May 28th. In addition to world-class tennis, there is also a small tournament for children on Thursday, May 26th, supported by Kreissparkasse Köln. A charity partner is also present. During the devastating floods last year, the tennis facilities of SV Altenahr were completely destroyed, and representatives of the club will be at the Saturn Oil Open daily with a stand to collect donations.
