It's not just us amateurs who love playing tennis right by the sea. The tennis pros feel the same way! Even though their focus is naturally on the courts, training, and the next match, the pros really enjoy the surrounding atmosphere. At the Makarska Open 2023 , the premier WTA 125 tournament in Croatia from June 5th to 11th, 2023, the professional women can look forward to a stunning tournament location. The women's tournament, which was held on the Croatian island of Brač until 2021, took place in Makarska for the first time last year, on one of the most beautiful stretches of Croatian coastline . And according to tournament director Feliks Lukas of Lukas Sports, remain there in the future. We'll briefly introduce you to the tournament and the wonderful holiday opportunities in the surrounding area. And perhaps one or two of you will be inspired to spend a wonderful tennis and tournament holiday there at short notice? Or perhaps you'll even keep this holiday destination in mind for a future tennis vacation!
In 1991, tournament director Feliks Lukas successfully brought the WTA tournament license back to Croatia from the USA. After that, the women's tournament, the largest of its kind in Southeast Europe, was held annually in Bol on the island of Brač. Despite its long tradition, the tournament moved to the mainland in 2022. However, a more wonderful location was found in Makarska. Makarska is known for its stunning beaches and mild temperatures. The Makarska Tennis Center, with eight beautifully located clay courts, is simply perfect for such a large tournament. In addition to the tennis matches, the facility offers ample space for a variety of side events and dining options. Spectators can spend the entire day relaxing in the shade of the trees, enjoying the tennis matches and the atmosphere.

What we find particularly wonderful is that all ticket proceeds this year will be donated to Mucrum . This organization cares for children with disabilities and will use the ticket money to, among other things, finance a therapy dog, which will undoubtedly be a great help and, above all, a great joy for the kids! This shows how sport can do good in so many ways!
Right next to the Markarska Tennis Center is the Valamar Hotels Places Dalmacija , one of the tournament's partner hotels. And it's a hotel we'll be introducing to you in detail very soon. But here's a sneak peek: this stylish hotel for modern travelers boasts a stunning location: the turquoise sea shimmers in the foreground, while the Biokovo Mountains rise steeply to the sky in the background. And nestled between them is the hotel, which TennisTraveller . It features fresh, cheerful rooms, various indoor and outdoor pools, and a fantastic spa area with a hammam. The hotel also offers exquisite cuisine, with a strong emphasis on local products and dishes. More on that very soon!

The tennis world is notoriously small – which is a good thing. So it's no surprise that one of our camp organizers will be right there at the tournament. Sascha Müller from AS Tennis GmbH is usually based in Wallmerod in Rhineland-Palatinate or running tennis camps in Austria or Italy, but as in previous years, he'll be an exhibitor at the Makarska Open and will be there for the entire tournament week.
Not just for his camps, no, but primarily for tennis esports . Tournament visitors can try out tennis esports live on site. "It absolutely thrills everyone," says Sascha, because in tennis esports you have to actively participate, i.e., perform the stroke motion just like "in real life." We'll definitely check it out ourselves and report back!
We now wish the tournament organizers a wonderful tournament and hope that this brief introduction to the holiday destination has brought you some sunshine and good cheer.
